Volunteer for Health
Medical Mission. Access to medical care is very limited in Lafond and the surrounding areas, So, medical missions can be tremendously beneficial for the people while we are building the hospital. The next hospital is 6 hours away and most people cannot afford to travel with a car. For a woman in labor who may need a c-section this could mean death. E. Meance Legacy Hospital will function mostly with volunteers on a rotation. The number one killers in Lafond are high blood pressure and diabetes. So we are seeking doctors, nurses and health educators who have expertise in treating these illnesses. We will also ensure to organize medical missions to help alleviate people's symptoms and educating them about prevention while the hospital is being built in Lafond. We will also share with new medical missions reports from the previous ones.
Other volunteering opportunities
Art Classes. Haitians are artists in their soul. The children at the Lafond School just need a little encouragement at the beginning to learn the basics of drawing, painting and/or dances. Their artwork will allow them to produce much-appreciated artwork.
Teaching English to School Children. You will be assigned one classroom to teach Basic English and document what you have taught for the next volunteer to take over. Soccer Coach and/or Sports Coach. Summers in Lafond are really fun as the Lafonbelle Soccer team takes on teams from other areas. But they can really learn soccer techniques and motivation. The months of July and August are ideal for this service. If you have coached a soccer team before, be part of the soccer fun and lead the Lafonbelle team from victory to victory. We want to introduce new sports such as volleyball, tennis and basketball to the young people of Lafond. So if you have coaching skills in these sports and would like to help out, welcome!
Electricity. The first service project focusing on electricity has allowed us to provide electricity to 12 households for basic lighting and powering of small appliances. This has made a huge difference in their lives. But many more neighbors want to be wired to the systems. It takes additional batteries and solar panels. With your support, we can purchase the equipment and all the locals will work with you to install the panels and to wire the house. You will visit the houses at night before and after you have installed electricity and you will see the joy of the people whose life will change for the better.
School Maintenance and Repair. After the earthquake two organizations helped the community of Lafond rebuild the primary school and the kindergarten. However, some improvements work need to be done on the buildings and also on the yard to ensure the children can play safely. Finally, we need to build a wall around the school for better safety and security of the school equipment.
Best Yard Contest. In order to improve the environment around individual houses, their owners have been invited to participate in the Lafond Best Yard Contest/Konkou Bèl Lakou. They will grow flowers, build fences with plants at the entrance of their house and improve the general look of their house. As you visit the homes, you will grade the yards. Each year these grades will be processed to select winners, who will receive prizes.
Research and Baseline Studies. We need to have baseline information for future health, water, sanitation and livelihood interventions. Students in the field of sociology, agronomy and geology can also come across many opportunities to do research and contribute to advancement in their field while providing useful information for the development of Lafond and the surrounding areas.

Build a House
The 2012 earthquake and several hurricanes such as Andrew and Maria in 2017, left many people of Lafond homeless, but thanks to the solidarity of many people from the United States, a number of people have rebuilt their house. However, not everyone has had this opportunity and a number of people remain homeless. Support a family and participate in the action to help them rebuild their house. One beneficiary will be identified and we will gather all construction materials prior to your arrival.
Contribute to the Construction of the Main Road to Lafond: You can organize a group of qualified workers to improve the condition of the road in some areas.
