Help Our Cause

e. MEANCE LEGACY Hospital

The last wish of Emile Meance before he crossed over was that Lafond would have its own hospital!!!

ANNOUNCEMENT

WE ARE LOOKING FOR A A GYNECOLOGIST IN LAFOND

During our last mobile clinic in Lafond on August 24th, 2019 we came across a woman who pulled one of our volunteers aside to tell her story. When she was pregnant last year she was carrying twins but was not aware of that fact. She did not follow up with a doctor or midwife throughout her pregnancy. She went into labor at home and struggled but managed to deliver the first baby. Since she did not know she was carrying twins she thought she was done. But unfortunately one week later the other twin baby came out but as a still born. She suffered vaginal bleeding and infections for a while. She is now aware of the need to have regular checkups to ensure she is in good gynecological health. She begged the team to bring a gynecologist to the village next time.

While the E. Meance Legacy hospital is being built we are committed to organizing medical missions to help alleviate people’s symptoms, especially the most vulnerable populations. If you know a gynecologist or midwife who would like to volunteer in our village of Lafond, South West Haiti, please do not hesitate to ask them to contact us at emeancelegacy@gmail.com

DEPARTMENT OF INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE

We provides integrative medical care to clients looking for a more holistic approach to wellness. The hospital integrates the following departments functioning as a whole: Nature, Mind, Body, Spirit, Science, Service &Community.

  • Mind
  • Body
  • Spirit
  • Science
  • Nature
  • Service
  • Community

We believe that our bodies are quite adept at repairing themselves. We use methods that aid that natural ability with modalities like movement therapy, herbal medicine, acupuncture, nutrition, meditation and yoga.  Yoga integrates with holistic medicine as it has been found treat the whole person. Yoga therapy increases flexibility and stamina, improves pain and anxiety and enhances the immune system. Yoga therapy focuses not only on physical health, but wellness of the mind and emotions.  We believe many illnesses are caused by the toxins in our foods. Avoiding manufactured ingredients and pesticides reduces the harmful substances entering our bodies. Replacing them with cleaner, more organically grown food and natural plant remedies aids the body in healing itself and preventing future disease.

BIOGRAPHY OF EMILE MEANCE

  • Emile Meance (Oct-7th 1938- May 20th 2019) was born and raised in Lafond, Haiti. He has worked in Lafond as a teacher, a church leader, a farmer and a community advocate. He believed that Education could open the door to community growth and development.
  • Mr. Meance married  Romaine Delcius and together they raised six children who were also born in Lafond but attended school 27 miles away in the city of Petit-Goave. All six children later attended prestigious universities abroad thanks to Mr. Meance’s dedication to their education regardless of the absence of schools in Lafond in the 1960’s. He has always envisioned a future brighter than what the impoverished village of Lafond allowed.
  • Mr. Meance has contributed to the construction of the main road connecting Petit-Goave to Les Palmes and Lafond. You still need a 4x4 SUV to safely travel to Lafond in two hours. There is still work to be done to improve the conditions of the road. But once you get to Lafond, thanks to Mr. Meance's hard work, you will experience a peaceful eco-touristic village with a school, a church, a sewing center, a radio station, solar energy, potable water and more importantly a group of people who are hospitable, loving, caring, humble and hopeful.
  • Mr. Meance has always wanted Lafond to be blessed with its own hospital so its native people would not have to travel so far to receive basic medical care. Also he wanted the children of Lafond who left to return home freely without the fear of being deprived of the basic necessities including access to medical care in case of an emergency during their trip.
